This Privacy Statement relates to the Nomination Form and the Self Portrait Form. It is additional to and should be read in conjunction with the Privacy Policy of the Australian Scholarships Group.

Personal Information about nominees and nominators are collected by the NEiTA Foundation Trust, which is a controlled entity of the Australian Scholarships Group.

The NEiTA Foundation was formed in 1994 as an education initiative of the Australian Scholarships Group (ASG)—a member-based friendly society helping families plan for the future costs of their children’s education. The NEiTA Foundation was established to promote excellence in teaching. The general objects of the Foundation are to promote and encourage excellence in teaching of children and young adults, and in particular to:

  • recognise teachers who represent excellence within their profession through their contribution to the advancement of education at a local, state or systems level
  • promote recognition of early childhood education and the significant contribution of early learning to the development of confident lifelong learners
  • encourage interaction between early childhood education centres, schools, and their local communities
  • raise community confidence in the teaching profession
  • encourage and support increased professional development of early childhood, primary, and secondary teachers
  • facilitate networking of teachers and the interchange of information about methods and successful teaching strategies
  • make grants and award prizes to teachers who have demonstrated a particularly high level of dedication and professional excellence
  • advocate, on behalf of teachers and the community, government recognition of excellence in teaching and learning.

The information requested on the NEiTA Nomination Form and the NEiTA Self Portrait Form, and any supporting materials provided with those Forms, constitutes all the personal information that NEiTA will collect from nominees or nominators during the nomination and assessment process. NEiTA will also obtain additional personal information in the endorsements of nominations and applications sought from and provided by the Principals of nominees.

NEiTA will hold and store the information on its secure database. It is necessary to hold and store the information and the database beyond the nomination year so as to ensure that eligibility requirements are met from year to year.

If all questions on the Nomination Form or the Self Portrait Form are not fully answered, NEiTA may not be able to assess the nomination and may have to reject the nomination.

The Purpose of Collection

The information provided will be used to assess the candidate’s nomination for a NEiTA award and/or grant.

The information is also:

  • used to publicise and market the NEiTA Awards. The successful Nominee’s information may be used for media publications, but only with the successful Nominee’s consent
  • collated and depersonalised to create statistical information, but only for internal use
  • listed on the NEiTA Awards Recipients' List on the NEiTA website
  • provided to ASG Members with on-going communication about NEiTA, its awards and grants
  • used for future related purposes, including and not limited to education research purposes and projects.

Given the objectives and activities of the Foundation personal information may be held and used for up to 10 years.

The Foundation utilises servers based in the USA.

Disclosing Information to Other Organisations

The information that NEiTA collects may be disclosed in the normal course of business to related entities of NEiTA, being members of the ASG Group.

NEiTA undertakes:

  • that it will not sell, rent or trade any personal information to any person
  • that it will not disclose personal information to anyone else, other than as outlined in this Statement, unless the disclosure:

    a) is required by law
    b) is authorised by law, or
    c) you have been notified of and consented to the disclosure.

Accessing Your Personal Information

You can ask NEiTA:

  • to confirm whether or not it holds any of your personal information
  • to provide you with access to all readily retrievable personal information that it holds about you.

If NEiTA is able to it will give you that access. If NEiTA refuses your request for access it will give you the reason for that refusal.

Correcting Your Personal Information

If NEiTA has any personal information about you which is incorrect or out of date you can ask it to correct that information. NEiTA will take reasonable steps to correct the information free of charge. If NEiTA refuses your request for access it will give you the reason for that refusal.

Security of data

NEiTA takes reasonable steps to preserve the security of personal information, in line with this Privacy Statement. In most browsers, there is a mechanism to check whether data transmissions are secure or not. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as totally secure. Once we receive your transmission however, we take reasonable steps to preserve the security of the information in our own systems.


Cookies are data files that are placed on a user’s hard drive by a Web Server that collects information about the user’s activities at a site. Cookies are not employed when accessing the NEiTA website, and are therefore not used to collect personal information.

Changes to this Privacy Statement

NEiTA may make changes to this Privacy Statement at any time and for any reason. NEiTA will publish these changes on its website.
